Tolu Arokodare’s debut didn’t go as planned, as his side, Wolverhampton Wanderers were defeated 1–0 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Arokodare played 66 minutes before being replaced by Marshall Munetsi.
It was another debutant who made the difference — Nick Woltemade scored the only goal to give the Magpies all three points.
Arokodare had a decent game. He completed 71% of his passes, including one into the final third.

Defensively, he contributed well — making three clearances, one interception, two successful ground duels, and four aerial duels. He also won two fouls.
Wolves head coach Vítor Pereira cited a lack of preparation for Tolu’s performance.
He said:
“After, we need a striker. We had one training with Tolu. He’s a different player — he’s physically strong, he gives us the possibility to play long ball, to hold the ball, and to give us time to appear. He did well. Of course, he is not in the physical condition to do better.”
He commended the team’s effort despite the loss
“I’m very happy with my team, proud of my players, the way that we faced Newcastle away, full stadium, but I saw my team playing with bravery, tactical organization, creating problems, strategical problems and we created two chance to score before them.”

The Wanderers are currently bottom of the Premier League, with zero points from four matches. The club is struggling at both ends of the pitch, having scored only two goals while conceding nine.
Pereira must find a way to help Tolu fit tactically with the rest of the squad to get the best out of him, as he will be crucial to their Premier League survival.
