Arokodare Strike Not Enough as Genk Slip Further Down Table

KRC Genk’s 2025/26 campaign has been far from ideal. The Belgian side are still without a victory after three league matches.

A 2–1 defeat to Club Brugge on opening day, a 1–1 draw with Royal Antwerp, and Sunday’s 2–1 loss to Standard Liège have left them just two positions above the bottom of the table.

Standard took the lead in the 37th minute from Thomas Henry’s penalty, while Marlon Fossey doubled the advantage nine minutes into the second half to put the hosts in control.

Tolu Arokodare came off the bench in the 67th minute and found the net just three minutes later, opening his goal tally for the season.

Despite dominating possession and registering 19 attempts – three times more than Liege’s total – Genk could not secure a point.

Meanwhile, Arokodare who was the joint top scorer (19) in the League last season is yet to start a game for Genk this season.

He has come off the bench in all three league matches amid transfer speculation.
