Arokodare Future Uncertain At Genk

Tolu Arokodare opened his account for the season in a 2-1 loss against Standard Liège.

Speaking to Voetbalkrant about his future, Arokodare said:

“It’s very frustrating not knowing what’s going on. I’m trying to stay calm, even though my head is racing. But I have my friends and loved ones who keep me mentally stable.

“I can’t say anything about it — I don’t know anything myself. You hear rumours, I hear rumours, but have you heard anything concrete yet? I don’t know if I’ll leave this season or next.”

Arokodare has not started any of Genk’s three matches so far. He was brought on between the 64th and 75th minute in each game.

Head coach, Thorsten Fink used Arokodare regularly last season, but has opted for Korean international Hyun Gyu Oh as the preferred starting striker this term.

That decision may be linked to Arokodare’s uncertain future, with reports suggesting he is among the players Genk could sell to raise funds.

Last season the Nigeria international scored 23 goals and provided seven assists in 45 games for Genk.
