Angola Crowned 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Champions; Re-Claim Record 12th Title

Angola reclaimed its place at the pinnacle of African basketball, defeating Mali 70-43 in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Final on Sunday to capture a record 12th continental title and their first since 2013.

The victory capped a flawless 6-0 campaign for the Southern African giants, who remain the winningest team in AfroBasket history.

Mali, competing in their first-ever AfroBasket final, finished runners-up with a 4-3 record.

 

Senegal Clinch  Afrobasket Third Place

Earlier in the day, Senegal defeated Cameroon 98-72 to secure third place for the third consecutive tournament.

 

A Historic Night in Luanda

Playing before a sellout crowd of 12,700 fans at Kilamba Arena for the third straight night, Angola controlled the final from start to finish. By the third quarter, the hosts had opened a commanding 20-point lead.

Childe Dundao led Angola with 16 points and received deafening “MVP” chants as he spearheaded the team’s charge. Selton Miguel added 12 points for the champions.

For Mali, Siriman Kanoute scored 14 points, while Aliou Diarra contributed 11. Mali’s 43-point total marked the lowest offensive output in an AfroBasket final in over 30 years.

 

Angola Dominates, Mali Sufffers Heartbreak

Afer aa spirited Mali side reaching their first-ever AfroBasket men’s final, the West Africans were completely outclassed. Angola led from start to finish, building a huge 20-point lead by the third quarter.

Mali’s 43 points marked the lowest scoring total in an AfroBasket final in 30 years. The loss also capped a heartbreaking month for Malian basketball, coming just 21 days after their women’s team fell 78-64 to Nigeria in the Women’s AfroBasket final.

The title marks a stunning return to glory for Angola, who last lifted the trophy in 2013 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The Southern African powerhouse has now extended its reputation as Africa’s most decorated basketball nation.
