New England Revolution’s struggles in the MLS continued on Wednesday with a loss to Inter Miami, extending their winless run to five consecutive league matches.
Despite a spirited performance and outperforming Miami on expected goals (1.28 to 1.09), the Revolution were undone by a clinical Lionel Messi brace that proved decisive on the night.
Nigerian international Alhassan Yusuf, was a standout performer for the Revolution, completing a game high 70 passes and winning more duels (8) than any other player on the pitch.
But Yusuf’s efforts weren’t enough to stop Messi, as the Argentine capitalized on defensive lapses to punish the home side.
The Revolution did manage to pull one back in the second half, but couldn’t recover from earlier defensive lapses, as Miami held on to secure all three points.
It was another night of frustration for New England, who have now lost four of their last five MLS matches and continue to drop in the Eastern Conference standings.
