Alex Iwobi Reveals Fulham Player Behind His Goalscoring Form

Alex Iwobi was at the heart of Fulham F.C.’s 3-1 win over Sunderland A.F.C., contributing both a goal and an assist in a commanding performance.

Fulham opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Iwobi delivered a perfectly placed corner that found Raul Jiménez, who rose highest to head the ball into the net.

Seven minutes later, Fulham were awarded a penalty after Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey was pulled back in the box by Bryan Brobbey.

Jiménez stepped up and sent goalkeeper Robin Roefs the wrong way to double the lead.

Sunderland got a lifeline in the 74th minute when Daniel Ballard was pulled down by Ryan Sessegnon in the penalty area. Enzo Le Fée converted from the spot to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Fulham sealed the win in the closing stages on a swift counterattack.

Noah Sadiki’s cross was initially headed away, but the ball fell to Wilson, who raced into space and laid it off to Iwobi.

The Nigerian international calmly lifted the ball over Roefs to make it 3-1 and secure the three points.

After the game, Iwobi told Sky Sports about the goal, highlighting the work he had been doing in training on transitions with Harry Wilson:

“I mean, yes. When Harry Wilson was with the ball, we had Oscar bombing up the pitch, and somehow I was up there.

“We’ve been working on this in training, and Harry had the composure to find me, so I saw the way the keeper was positioned.

“The only way I could get the ball in was to lift it over his foot, so credit to Harry and then to us for getting the three points.”

Marco Silva Praises Iwobi

“We handled the pressure really well, even if the Stadium was buzzing.

“They didn’t create any chance, even until our third goal. We scored the third goal in an incredible counterattack. Everything Harry Wilson did until then, alongside the pass, was brilliant. Of course, what a finish from Alex. Top finish from Alex. We won the fight even if they made life difficult for us.”

The victory sees Fulham move into the top ten of the Premier League table with 37 points.
