The Super Eagles have officially opened their training camp in Cairo, Egypt, as preparations ramp up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Head coach Eric Chelle, along with his backroom staff, including Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede, have arrived in Egypt, ensuring the coaching team is fully in place.
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was the first player to join the camp, arriving around 2 a.m. local time on Saturday, followed by Stanley Nwabali.

Several players have since joined them:
Semi Ajayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Ademola Lookman, Amas Obasogie, Igho Ogbu, Tochukwu Nnadi
Other players are expected to arrive after fulfilling their club commitments, with the deadline for full squad assembly set for December 15.
The training camp will play a crucial role in fostering team cohesion, particularly as there are five new faces in the squad.
Chelle and his assistants will use this period to assess the players’ strengths, evaluate tactics, and fine-tune strategies ahead of the tournament.
The Super Eagles will face Egypt in a friendly on December 16, providing a key test for the squad and allowing the coaching team to finalize their plans.
Nigeria’s opening AFCON match will be against Tanzania on December 23, followed by fixtures against Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30, with all Group C games to be held in Fez.
The team is expected to depart Egypt ahead of the tournament to arrive in Morocco in good time.

In addition to tactical preparations, Chelle is expected to name a new captain, following the retirement of Williams Troost-Ekong from international football.
