Super Eagles B striker, Sikiru Alimi has expressed confidence ahead of Nigeria’s opening Group D fixture against defending champions Senegal at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
The Teranga Lions clinched the 2022 CHAN trophy when they defeated Algeria 5-4 on penalties after over 120 minutes of a goalless draw.
Alimi believes the squad is fully prepared for the showdown after weeks of intense training and team bonding.
“There’s a lot of togetherness and understanding among us. We’ve worked hard and we’re ready for the task ahead,” he said.
While hopeful for a strong tournament run, he stressed the importance of taking it one game at a time.
“Right now, our focus is on the first game. It’s an important match. Facing Senegal, the defending champions, in the opener makes it even more interesting.”
Alimi also noted that the team has gained valuable experience from previous continental games.
“We understand the quality we’re up against. The standard here is different, and we’re pushing ourselves to match it,” he added.
The Super Eagles will face off against Senegal for the first time ever in the African Nations Championship.
