Actress Sonia Ogala has hit out at the FCT police over the statement it issued regarding the detention of Samuel Ojeogwu, the elder brother of Regina Daniels.
As actress Regina Daniels and her family called for the release of Sammy and accused her estranged husband Ned Nwoko of orchestrating the arrest, the FCT police spokesperson released a statement explaining the reason for his arrest. The statement added that Sammy has been granted bail but he is being held until he perfects his bail conditions (read here).
However, actress Sonia Ogala, who has been fighting for her colleague Rita Daniels – the mother of Regina and Sammy – slammed the police statement.
Sonia told the police to “fear God”. She insisted that Sammy was never granted bail.
She said Sammy was taken very early to a secluded Magistrate court in Dutse while his family and laywer were at the police station, unaware of what was going on.
When his case was called, Sonia said Sammy had no lawyer present and was given a court lawyer. However, he insisted he wanted his own family and his own lawyer, seeing as his biological father is a trained lawyer and had travelled from Lagos to Abuja just for him.
Sonia said that by the time they got to the court, Sammy had been moved again, and the magistrate had “disappeared” and “locked the charges”.
Sonia accused the Nigerian police of misrepresenting the facts. She added that Rita Daniels has collapsed and Regina has locked herself in a room, threatening to harm herself.
Sonia urged the Nigerian police to do the right thing. She questioned them on what crime Sammy committed and asked why he should be persecuted just because he defended his sister, Regina, during an alleged domestic violence incident involving her husband Ned Nwoko.
