Erika Kirk, widow of U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has broken down in tears while addressing the public for the first time since her husband’s shocking death.
Speaking during a livestream from Turning Point USA headquarters in Arizona, Erika stood beside her late husband’s empty podcast chair, whispering a prayer before thanking first responders who tried to save him, as well as staff and the White House.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Police arrested the suspected gunman, Tyler Robinson, the following day after he surrendered.
In her emotional remarks, Erika made it clear her husband’s legacy will not die with him:
“You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry. If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea what you just unleashed across this entire country and this world.”
She also spoke directly to former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, “Mr President, my husband loved you. And he knew that you loved him too.”
Erika tearfully recalled Kirk’s devotion to his family, especially their two children. Addressing their young daughter, she said: “Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus.”
Charlie Kirk, a polarising figure in U.S. politics, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a major figure in mobilising conservative youth. His provocative campus debates drew both loyal fans and fierce critics.
Following his death, Trump announced that Kirk will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, calling him “a giant of his generation and a champion of liberty.”
Erika has vowed that her husband’s tour and podcast will continue in his absence, promising his mission will carry on.
