VP Shettima Visits Borno Bombing Victims, Conveys Tinubu’s Condolences and Praises Emergency Response

Newsypeople- Vice President Kashim Shettima traveled to Gwoza in Borno State to offer solace to the victims of the recent suicide bombings and to deliver President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the affected families and state officials.

The tragic incident, which took place on Saturday, was carried out by suspected female suicide bombers and claimed the lives of 32 individuals.

At Borno Specialist Hospital, Shettima shared that 42 injured people were transported from Gwoza, with 14 having been discharged and 26 still receiving medical care.

He expressed his appreciation to the Borno State government, NEMA, SEMA, and the ICRC for their swift response and support to the victims.

The Vice President’s visit highlights the federal government’s dedication to tackling the security issues in Borno State and aiding those impacted by terrorism. It also underscores the persistent threat from insurgent groups in northeastern Nigeria.

In response to the attack, authorities have enforced a curfew in Gwoza, fearing additional incidents. This move emphasizes the ongoing security challenges in the area and the government’s commitment to safeguarding civilians.

While in Borno, Kashim Shettima also participated in funeral prayers for the late mother of former governor Ali Modu Sheriff, demonstrating respect for local customs and maintaining strong ties with regional leaders.
