Visa fraud can lead to permanent ban - US embassy warns Nigerians

The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a strong warning to Nigerians about visa fraud, stressing that falsifying information or submitting fake documents can result in a permanent visa ban.

In a post shared on X on Monday, the embassy stated that lying or providing false documents during a visa application could permanently bar applicants from entering the United States.

According to the embassy, such violations fall under US immigration law and could mean the individual will never be eligible to travel to the country.

The warning came the same day US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to discuss areas of cooperation between both countries.

The embassy noted that the United States looks forward to continued collaboration with Nigeria on matters of shared interest.

The meeting also comes amid growing diplomatic attention on Nigeria’s internal security challenges, especially in the North and Middle Belt, where some US lawmakers have raised concerns over attacks on communities and possible violations of religious freedom.
