A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), identified as Becky, has come forward to debunk claims that she had a boyfriend while going on a date with popular media personality Asherkine.
The controversy erupted on Snapchat after a user, Kenny, claimed to have been Becky’s boyfriend for two years.
In a series of statements shared on social media and now circulating online, Becky firmly denied knowing the individual behind the viral claims. She insisted that the name being used to spread the alleged lies does not even reflect her real identity. “I do not know this boy,” she stated, adding, “I have never had a boyfriend before and nothing will change my statement.”
Becky revealed that the individual had only added her on Snapchat a day prior, and that his claims stemmed from information sourced through Asherkine’s Snapchat. “To think that this guy just added me on snap yesterday from Asherkine’s snap is what marvels me the most,” she wrote. She also clarified that the name being circulated is not her full or correct name.
The situation intensified after Kenny posted a photo appearing to show him kissing Becky on the cheek, allegedly to support his claim of a romantic relationship. However, Becky has since released evidence suggesting the photo was AI-generated. According to her, the image was doctored from a TikTok video she had previously shared.
Responding to criticism that she had not shown enough gratitude for gifts received during a boat trip with Asherkine, Becky explained that she had already been informed about the items beforehand, making them less of a surprise, except for the unexpected gift of an iPhone 16. She expressed her astonishment at receiving such an expensive device, saying, “I honestly didn’t expect a phone, talk more of an iPhone 16!”
She also confirmed that she informed her family before the trip and had received their consent after much deliberation. “My family members knew I was going on this trip,” she explained. “Fast forward to when I came back from this trip and this whole scandal happened.”
