A medical doctor has criticised his colleagues who believe they know better about patients’ bodies than the patients.
He explained that despite understanding how the body works, they can’t understand everything their patients are going through.
He added that doctors being dismissive of patients’ complaints can cost them their lives.
The doctor wrote on X: “What is this ‘A doctor knows more about your body than you do’ nonsense I’ve been seeing?
“The fact that doctors understand anatomy & physiology does not mean we understand everything wrong with our patients.
“I’ve been a patient and this dismissive attitude nearly k!lled me.
“I remember lying in a hospital bed begging my doctors to listen to me about my symptoms. I was ignored.
“They were focused on their own diagnosis and workup while I was fighting for my life.
“Again, a lot of doctors will only understand this when they become patients themselves.”
