Tragedy struck in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, as Mr. Lucky Obaze, was allegedly st@bbed to d€@th by his tenant over a N1,500 electricity bill.
The suspect, identified simply as Chiboy, is said to hail from Calabar in Cross River State.
According to Ika Weekly Newspaper, the suspect and his brother, Victor, lived together in a one-room apartment at the house belonging to Mr. Obaze’s late father.
Mr. Obaze, an indigene of the Owa-Oyibu Community in Ika North-East LGA, also lived in the same compound with his wife and children.
Narrating the incident on December 21, 2025, Master Success Lucky, one of the deceased’s children, said the disagreement began when his father went to collect the electricity bill from the tenant, as he usually did.
“My father went to Chiboy to collect the light bill of N1,500. When he got there, they started arguing over the money,” the boy recounted tearfully.
“I was alone with my father. If my mother had been around, this would not have happened. Before I knew it, they started fighting downstairs where Chiboy lives. After the fight, my father went upstairs to rest.
“Suddenly, Chiboy came upstairs holding a knife. I tried to push him away so he wouldn’t reach my father, but he overpowered me. He then met my father sitting in the parlour and st@bbed him.”
The wife of the deceased, Mrs. Helen Obaze, appealed passionately to security agencies, the Nigerian government, and human rights organizations to ensure justice is served.
She lamented that she has been left with the responsibility of caring for six children alone.
Mrs. Obaze disclosed that her husband’s remains have been deposited at the mortuary to enable the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
