Airport personnel have made a grim discovery during routine maintenance on an American Airlines flight that just completed a transatlantic journey.
The body of a stowaway was found inside the landing gear compartment of the aircraft at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, North Carolina, on Sunday morning, September 28 around 9 a.m. local time.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers pronounced the person dead at the scene. The plane had arrived from Europe shortly before the discovery.
American Airlines confirmed the incident, stating they are “working with law enforcement on its investigation.”
