Lizzo is once again facing a legal challenge, this time over claims that she copied another artist’s song for one of her viral tracks.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the GRC Trust has filed a lawsuit against Lizzo and her record label, Atlantic Records, accusing the singer of sampling and copying parts of their composition “Win or Lose (We Tried)” without proper authorization.
The complaint alleges that Lizzo’s 2025 track “I’m Goin’ In Till October”, also known as “Good Jeans”, which gained massive traction on TikTok and Instagram, includes instrumental and vocal elements lifted directly from the original copyrighted work.
In response to the lawsuit, a representative for Lizzo told TMZ, “We are surprised that The GRC Trust filed this lawsuit. To be clear, the song has never been commercially released or monetized, and no decision has been made at this time regarding any future commercial release of the song.”
The GRC Trust, however, insists that Lizzo and her team knowingly used the composition for commercial gain without securing a proper license. The filing further claims that both sides had previously discussed a potential agreement to sample the song, but negotiations broke down without a finalized deal.
As a result, the Trust is seeking damages and an injunction to stop any continued use or exploitation of their song.
This isn’t the first time Lizzo has been embroiled in a music ownership dispute. Her 2019 hit “Truth Hurts” sparked controversy after producers claimed co-writing credit, while singer Mina Lioness accused Lizzo of taking the lyric “100% that btch”* from her 2017 tweet. Lizzo eventually credited Mina after the dispute gained public attention.
