Singer Chris Brown freed on £5m bail in UK assault case

American singer, Chris Brown has been freed on bail by a court in London after being charged with inflicting an “unprovoked attack” in a nightclub in 2023. A London judge released Chris Brown on bail in the amount of 5 million on Wednesday, May 21), according to Reuters. The Forever singer also has to surrender his passport when not traveling for his upcoming Breezy Bowl XX Tour in North American and Europe, which is scheduled to kick off June 8. The singer, who has not yet entered a plea, was ordered to pay 4 million to start, with an additional 1 million due in seven days. The two-time Grammy winner was arrested on May 15 while at his hotel in Manchester for what officials told The Independent was suspicion of grievous bodily harm tied to an alleged assault that happened at a nightclub in February 2023. According to Reuters, prosecutors claim that Brown is responsible for an unprovoked attack with a tequila bottle on music promoter Abraham Diaw. The Associated Press also reported that a friend of Browns and fellow musician Omololu Akinlolu, whose stage name is HoodyBaby, was also charged Saturday (May 17) with causing grievous bodily harm with intent over the alleged attack on Diaw. Brown was initially denied bail during a London court hearing on Friday (May 16). The judge at that hearing remanded the R&B star into custody, with the singer at the time set to remain behind bars until his next hearing, which would have been June 13, a decision that put his tour, which will also feature Summer Walker and Bryson Tiller in jeopardy. His next court date is set for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court in London. That date is currently bookended by two shows: June 19 in Cardiff, U.K., and June 21 in London. The post Singer Chris Brown freed on 5m bail in UK assault case appeared first on Linda Ikeji Blog.
