Senegal goalkeeper douard Mendy has officially announced his retirement from international football at the age of 34, concluding a distinguished career with the Lions of Teranga. Mendy represented his country across 60 international matches, cementing his status as one of the premier African goalkeepers of his generation. The primary highlight of his international tenure came in early 2022, when he played a crucial role in leading Senegal to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title at the 2021 tournament in Cameroon. Mendy’s retirement coincides with continued international recognition, as he was shortlisted for the 2026 Yashin Trophy, the annual award honoring the world’s top goalkeeper.
