Musician and Owambe sensation, Segun Johnson, has revealed how some notable Nigerian singers known for singing at high profile parties and events, make their money.
While speaking on The Teju Babyface Deep Dive Podcast, Johnson stated that these top-tier musicians don’t necessarily charge a performance fee. Instead, they give their clients a target as to how much the guests at their parties have to spray them.
He shared a jaw-dropping scenario where a well-known Owambe artist (name withheld) reportedly told a client
“If you want me at your party, I must make N50 million that day.” No fixed charge, no performance fee—just a clear monetary expectation from the party’s money spray.
Segun further explained that these A-list musicians sometimes turn down high-paying gigs if the guest list isn’t packed with “heavy” or notable personalities.
Instead, they’ll perform at a party *for free* if they believe the guest list includes influential or wealthy attendees. The strategy? Play for prestige, and the money will rain—literally.
“They know the kind of people who spray,” Segun said
Interestingly, Segun also disclosed *off-mic* the name of one of these top musicians to Teju, though it wasn’t revealed in the clip. His comment has sparked conversations and raised eyebrows about the behind-the-scenes game at these high-end parties.
