Arise TV anchor Charles Aniagolu has publicly criticised former presidential spokesperson Reno Omokri following allegations that he was engaged by the Nigerian government to counter international narratives about the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
In a post shared on his verified X account, Aniagolu wrote:
“Seems Reno Omokri has failed spectacularly in his lobbying efforts!”
The tweet came shortly after former U.S. mayor Mike Arnold alleged that Omokri had been contracted to “push back” against claims of religious persecution in Nigeria. Arnold, who appeared on an Arise TV interview weeks earlier, claimed that Omokri paid $3,000 for the segment to air, in what he described as an effort to counter reports of Christian killings.
Aniagolu and Omokri had clashed moments before the interview began, as captured in a video which went viral. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from Omokri’s insistence on choosing his own sitting position on set a move that escalated tensions in the studio.
