Security forces in Zamfara State have arrested a suspected gunrunner in Gusau while attempting to smuggle a large cache of weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), AK-47 rifles, and assorted ammunition, to the Dansadau area of the state.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, November 2, 2025 during a covert operation following credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms through the state capital.
According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the arms were cleverly concealed in a consignment of dried fish to evade detection.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the weapons likely originated from the Lake Chad region, a known route for cross-border trafficking of arms used by terrorist and bandit groups operating in the North-West.
“The suspect was arrested while attempting to move the shipment towards Dansadau, one of the areas recently affected by bandit activities,” a source told Zagazola.
