Rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty of three crimes in the 2020 shooting of hip-hop icon Megan Thee Stallion after a day of deliberation by a Los Angeles jury.
According to the Associated Press, the 30-year-old Canadian, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic weapon, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and firing a firearm carelessly. He might spend up to 22 years behind bars.
In his closing remarks, Lanez’s lawyer referred to Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, as “a liar,” and said that Kelsey Harris, the star’s then-best friend, fired the rounds as they were bickering over Lanez, who sought to mediate the situation.
The liar is Megan Pete. From the outset of this lawsuit, she lied about everything, according to George Mgdesyan. “She lied here while sworn in.”
Although Megan encountered a great deal of backlash for her insistence that Lanez is charged, Mgdesyan claimed that attributing the incident to Lanez made for a more sympathetic tale. The two got into a fight while riding in an SUV, and the fight turned more heated when she disparaged his music, according to her testimony during the trial. She attempted to flee after getting out of the car, she testified to the jury, but Lanez shot at her feet with a revolver while yelling at her to dance.
To remove the gunshot pieces, she needed surgery.
Police arrived at the site, as previously reported by CrimeOnline, and detained Lanez. The case’s victim was not identified, but Megan later identified her in an Instagram post.
According to the AP, prosecutors argued Megan had no motivation to lie because of the harassment she had experienced due to the case.
“What makes her lie?” Alexander Bott, a deputy district attorney, said. “She has experienced a wave of hatred. what reason? for declaring oneself a victim of domestic abuse?”
Following the reading of the verdict, Lanez’s father sprang to his feet and said, “This cruel system stands judged before God almighty!” “You two are nasty, wicked people!” he yelled, pointing at the two prosecutors. You’re well aware of what you did!”
After being escorted out, he continued to yell in the hallway for some time.
Megan’s attorney, Alex Spiro, told reporters after the jury was discharged that “the jury got it correctly.” “I’m glad there’s justice for Meg,” he remarked. Outside of court, Lanez’s counsel was nowhere to be found.
