The Katsina State Police Command has arrested the principal of Government Secondary School Shargalle in Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina State over alleged theft of school property.
It was gathered that the case, transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, relates to an incident on 19 January 2026, when unknown persons broke into the school around 0600hrs and stole inverter batteries and other laboratory equipment.
Investigation led to the arrest of Principal Bashir Musa, 58, of Shadambu Low Cost Daura.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, January 26, 2026 said four solar panels, five desktop computers, three CPU units, one solar battery, one printer, and two hair clippers, all belonging to the school, were recovered from the principal’s residence.
“The Katsina State Command has succeeded in arresting one Bashir Musa, male, age 58, a school principal, suspected to be in connection with a case of vandalism, breaking and theft at the school laboratory,” the statement read.
“On the 19th January, 2026, at about 0600 hrs, information was received at Dutsi Division on a break-in and theft of solar lighting equipment and desktop computers at a school in the LG.
“Upon receipt of the information, detectives were drafted to the scene, and the investigation commenced. A handsaw suspected to be used in perpetrating the crime was recovered from the scene.
“The investigation led to the residence of the school principal; upon search, the following items were recovered as exhibits, 1. 4 Solar panels, 2. 1 Solar battery, 3. 5 Computer monitors, 4. 3 C.P.Us, 5. 1 Printing machine, and 6. 2 Clippers.
“The principal was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for questioning, where he confessed to the commission of the crime.
“Investigation is ongoing with a view to recovering the remaining exhibits.
“Further development will be communicated in due course.”
