President Tinubu Nominates Key Leaders for PSC and FCCPC, Seeks Senate Confirmation

  • President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm the appointments of several individuals to important positions.
  • For the Police Service Commission (PSC), Tinubu nominated retired deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) Hashim Argungu as chairman, Chief Onyema Uche as secretary, and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu as member.
  • For the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Tinubu nominated Dr. Olatunji Bello as the chief executive officer/executive vice chairman.

Newsypeople- By sending nominations for important positions to the Senate for confirmation, President Bola Tinubu has made a major contribution to bolstering the leadership of important government institutions.

President Tinubu has proposed Chief Onyema Uche as the commission’s secretary and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashim Argungu as the commission’s chairman in an effort to increase the efficiency of the Police Service Commission (PSC). Retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu has also received a nomination to join the PSC.

In addition, the President has requested Senate approval for Dr. Olatunji Bello’s appointment to the position of Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the nominations in two different letters during the plenary session of the Senate. This occurs after Tinubu took over as PSC chairman on June 10th, succeeding retired Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase.

Argungu, Uche, and Lakano’s nominations have been forwarded to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs for additional legislative work, while the Senate has referred Bello’s nomination request to the Committee for Trade and Investment.

The committees are to submit their reports on these appointments within a week.

President Tinubu’s dedication to guaranteeing competent leadership in important institutions that are vital to maintaining stability is demonstrated by these nominations.
