The Kaduna State Police command says its operatives have recovered 210 rounds of 7.56mm ammunition abandoned by occupants of a commercial vehicle along the Zaria–Funtua highway.
The spokesperson for the command, Mansir Hassan, said in a statement on Tuesday, November 26, Mansur mentioned that the ammunition was discovered after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Samaru received a report from residents that passengers in a black Volkswagen Golf had thrown a sack out of a moving vehicle at the Dogo Itace axis of Zaria.
Hassan said a police patrol team immediately moved to the location and found the sack containing the ammunition. The DPO alerted other divisions along the route up to Funtua, but efforts to intercept the vehicle were unsuccessful.
He said the suspects likely sensed danger due to intensified patrols and snap checkpoints recently introduced by the command.
The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Rabiu Muhammad, called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to share timely information with security agencies. He said a manhunt for the fleeing suspects had commenced.
Muhammad reassured the public of the command’s commitment to proactive policing and warned criminal elements to stay away from the state or face the full weight of the law.
