Police arrest two suspects in Kano over armed robbery attack in Lagos

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested two men linked to an armed robbery and attempted murder case in Lagos.

Police spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna announced the development in a statement on Saturday, describing it as a major breakthrough achieved through intelligence gathering and support from local communities.

According to Haruna, tactical operatives acting on credible information apprehended the suspects on September 11 at Na’ibawa Quarters in Kano. They were identified as 25-year-old Mathew Adewole of Na’ibawa Quarters and 31-year-old Mukhtar Muhammad of Unguwa Uku Quarters.

During interrogation, Adewole reportedly admitted to attacking a Lagos resident, identified as Lil-Kesh, in Bera Estate, Chevron, on August 19. The assault left the victim with severe injuries, including a deep cut to the neck. Haruna said the attackers forced the victim to transfer more than N2 million from his account to an account belonging to Muhammad.

He added that the arrests followed directives from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who has emphasized strengthening intelligence operations and community policing to combat crime more effectively.

The suspects have since been transferred to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the officers involved in the operation and acknowledged the role of residents who provided information. He reassured the public that the command would continue working with security agencies and community leaders to maintain order.
