Police arrest man in viral video threatening Adamawa residents with AK-47

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Anas Dauda, from Jalingo B area in Lamorde Ward, Mubi South Local Government Area, for unlawful possession of a firearm after a viral video showed him brandishing an AK-47 rifle.

In a statement released on Friday, October 31, in Yola, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and said it followed the circulation of a disturbing video on social media in which Dauda was seen displaying an AK-47 loaded with three magazines while making threatening remarks and boasting that he could sell or lease the weapon.

“The video, which caused panic and fear among residents, was promptly brought to the attention of the Command,” the statement said.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, ordered the deployment of operatives from the Mubi South Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), to track and apprehend the suspect. The operatives successfully arrested Dauda at a remote location in Mubi town.

Nguroje said investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to recover the firearm seen in the video and identify its source.

The Commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for discreet investigation and prosecution.

Morris also reassured the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety and security across Adamawa State and warned individuals against any act that could disturb public peace or violate the law.
