The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly def!ling a 12-year-old girl in Akure.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, March 5, 2026
According to the PPRO, the suspect allegedly lured the minor into a nearby bush under the pretense of helping her after she visited his shop to charge her mother’s phone, and r@ped her.
He added that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership CP Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), minps wishes to inform the general public that a case of alleged defilement has been reported to the command and referred to Gender-Based Offences Unit for discreet investigation.
“On 3rd of March, 2026, one Adebayo Sefunmi ‘F’ of Oluwatuyi, Akure, reported that on February 28, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., at Ehin Ala, where her children reside, one Imeje Mathew ‘M’, 62 years, allegedly def!led her 12-year-old daughter.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect allegedly lured the minor into a nearby bush under the pretense of assisting her after she visited his shop to charge her mother’s phone, where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Hospital while the suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing to ensure diligent prosecution.
“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, and to ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are made to face the full weight of the law without compromise.
“While appreciating members of the public for their timely and courageous reporting, the Command urges all residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable information to the Police for swift intervention.
