Police arrest 14 suspected traffic robbers on Lekki?Epe expressway

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe Expressway over the past two weeks, following growing complaints from motorists about thefts during traffic congestion.

The suspects were apprehended at different locations along the busy corridor by operatives of the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi.

“Fourteen suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, within the last two weeks at different locations along the Lekki–Epe Expressway,” Adebisi said.

She described the arrests as a strong indication of the Command’s resolve to improve security and protect road users in the area, urging residents and motorists to remain vigilant.

“See something, say something,” she added.

The crackdown comes amid heightened public concern over traffic-related robberies along the Lekki axis, particularly incidents involving the theft of vehicle parts while cars are stuck in congestion.

Recently, tech influencer Fisayo Fosudo raised an alarm on social media, revealing that his vehicle had been attacked multiple times in traffic. In one incident, he said his windshield cover was removed while he was stuck on the expressway.

His post sparked widespread reactions from other motorists who shared similar experiences. One social media user warned that certain vehicle models, especially Lexus RX 350 models from 2017 to 2022, are frequently targeted at night.

According to the user, criminals often disguise themselves as beggars or hawkers while stealing side mirrors and other detachable vehicle parts, which are reportedly in high demand.

The police have assured the public that surveillance and patrols along the Lekki–Epe corridor will be sustained to curb traffic-related crimes and restore confidence among road users.
