Oyo government approves N4.5bn for Bodija explosion victims

The Oyo State Government has approved the sum of N4.5 billion as financial support for the victims and survivors of the Bodija explosion, which occurred on January 16.

The decision was made during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office on Wednesday, May 14.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, stated that the newly approved funds are in addition to the over N200 million already spent by the state on accommodation, feeding, hospital care, and security services in the aftermath of the explosion.

Oyelade also announced that the council ratified the recommendation of a 10-man committee to revoke the title of two properties located off Adeyi Avenue—the epicentre of the explosion. He said the state will construct a monument on the revoked land in honour of the victims.

The decision, he noted, was taken in the public interest and as part of efforts to bring closure to affected communities.
