An X user has shared a workplace experience involving a fellow Nigerian colleague who appeared uninterested in forming any connection when they were introduced at work.
According to the user, new employees resumed on the 5th of the month, and one of them was a Nigerian. During introductions, he made sure to clearly mention his name so his compatriot would notice, but the response he got suggested there was no interest in familiarity.
He explained that the colleague often stayed behind in the office lobby after work, but since there was no sign of openness, he didn’t bother asking why.
Things came up again during lunch when the colleague’s line manager jokingly asked if he had met “his brother from Nigeria.” He simply smiled and said nothing. Shortly after, the colleague joined them briefly, introduced himself reluctantly, and returned to his seat.
Later that day, the user saw him again in the lobby and casually asked if he was waiting for his car. The colleague said he was waiting for an Uber. Although he initially planned to end the conversation there, he decided to offer help and asked if he could give him a lift.
After putting the address into his map, he discovered they live just three streets apart.
He noted that if they had spoken on the first day, he would have known his colleague needed assistance, which could have saved him unnecessary Uber expenses.
