Nigerian lady narrates how a couple she borrowed money refused to return it

A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to recount how a couple she once assisted financially allegedly conspired with her friend, who is related to them, to deny receiving the loan and further accused her of having romantic intentions toward the husband.

In a Facebook post, Amaka Lucy narrated that in 2014, she loaned a man identified as Gerald money to complete his house rent and move out of his sister’s home due to tensions with his in-law. According to her, Gerald’s sister, who was her friend and neighbour, pleaded for the assistance, assuring that the money would be repaid within two weeks as Gerald had goods to sell.

Lucy said the loan came from her savings, which were meant to help her relocate to Lagos and contribute to rent with a friend. She claimed she withdrew the entire amount in cash from her bank and handed it to Gerald in person. Initially, both his sister and wife expressed gratitude for the gesture.

However, weeks later, repayment was not made. After three months, Lucy alleged that Gerald, his wife, and his sister denied ever receiving the money, demanding evidence which she could not provide as the transaction was in cash. She said the situation escalated when Gerald’s wife publicly accused her of having an interest in her husband, humiliating her in front of others at the plaza where she worked.

According to Lucy, the incident left her so distraught that she quit her job at the time and moved to Lagos, maintaining resentment towards the couple for years. She claimed she repeatedly cursed them until Gerald eventually blocked her number.

She wrote:

“A man and his family has been calling my phone nonstop that i might have to turn off my phone. Why? Because he wants to apologize for whatever reason. What happened?

Back in 2014 i loaned oga Gerald money to complete his house rent and move out his sister’s house because he was having issues with his Inlaw. The sister was my neighbor and friend. That was my savings. She begged me to help her brother and they promised to back in two weeks time as Gerald has goods on ground to sell (He sells men wears)

That money was My salary from my sales girl’s job and i was saving to come join Happiness Chisom Choice in Lagos and pay my own part of our rent then. He followed me to Diamond bank MCC Owerri and i emptied my account and gave him. We returned to the shop, the sister thanked me. The wife was grateful. They moved totheir new house . Two weeks later, they said the money wasn’t available. One month later still not ready.

Three months later they connived and denied me giving him money. They said i should provide evidence, I couldn’t because i withdrew the money cash and handed to him. I cried so much. I begged them to give me even half so i could travel to Lagos.

The wife started saying maybe i have eyes for her husband. She dragged my ears in front of the whole plaza and said all sort of mean things to me. I was so broken i had to drop my Boss’s shop keys with a friend and left the plaza. I was embarrassed because people starts seeing me as small girl that was eyeing oga Gerald.

The sister stopped talking to me. I was hurt and managed to run to Lagos. I kept cursing him and sending him curses until he finally blocked my line from reaching him.

Yesterday my phone vibrated,I picked and it was his foolishhhh wife and had the audacity to tell me that someone is sick and would like to speak with me. At first i didn’t get it, until she mentioned his name. Eeeewwww! Blocked. Deleted.”
