To honor a beloved New York fireman 47-year-old firefighter William Moon who died in a training accident this month at his Brooklyn fire station, hundreds of people showed up on Thursday.
William “Billy” Moon, 47, spent 20 years in Queens before transferring to Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn. He also worked for his hometown Islip Volunteer Fire Department, serving as its chief in 2017, according to WCBS.
“Marrying Billy was like tying the knot with the fire station. His wife, Kristina Moon, spoke at the burial at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bay Shore, Long Island, saying that his devotion to and passion for his work were woven throughout our daily lives.
“Our fantasy Billy Moon was. Even for a brief period, he was a dream to have on our rig, and he improved us all, according to FDNY Rescue 2 Captain Liam J. Flaherty.
He continues to exist because he always made the decision to go above and beyond for those he promised. Billy was that kind of guy, and that’s the kind of person we all aspire to be. Firefighter Billy Moon will live on in the hearts of this department forever, and we will never forget him, according to FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, also attended.
While his mother presented a eulogy that had been written by the couple’s daughter, Brianne, Moon’s son, Colin, spoke to the mourners and said that his father had motivated him to desire to be a fireman.
Many people have heard me state that I’m parenting Brianne as Billy’s female counterpart and Colin as Billy’s younger sibling, according to Kristina Moon. “As a result, I am confident that his vibrant personality and intense sense of zest for life will continue as they develop and uphold his legacy. You are my closest friend, Billy. You will always be our hero. We adore you wholeheartedly. The entire region could sense the church’s anguish.
