NASCAR Xfinity Series points leader Connor Zilisch saw his victory celebrations end in hospital on Saturday after breaking his collarbone in an on-track mishap.
The 19-year-old had just claimed his sixth win of the season at Watkins Glen International in New York when he attempted to climb onto the roof of his No. 88 Chevrolet to celebrate. As he moved, his left foot appeared to catch on the car’s window netting, causing him to tumble awkwardly onto Victory Lane.
Witnesses rushed to his aid as Zilisch lay motionless before being taken to the trackside medical center and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation.
Later, the championship leader updated fans on X, formerly Twitter, saying: “Thank you everybody for reaching out today. I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn’t any worse.”
Zilisch remains top of the standings with 823 points, seven ahead of Justin Allgaier.
