My son remains in APC by personal choice ? El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said his son, Bello El-Rufai, remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of personal conviction despite his own criticism of the ruling party.

Bello currently represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives at the National Assembly.

El-Rufai made the clarification during an interview on BBC Hausa Service. The interview came shortly after he alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) attempted to detain him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon his return from Egypt.

Speaking on his son’s political affiliation, the former governor, who is now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said Bello is old enough to make independent political decisions.

“My son Bello was elected under the platform of the APC and his electorate seem to be satisfied with his performance. He is over 30 years old and capable of making his own choices. Politics is about personal preference,” he said.

El-Rufai added that his son’s continued membership of the APC does not conflict with his own opposition stance.

“If he chooses to remain in the APC without participating in any wrongdoing, based on the values we instilled in him, then Alhamdulillah,” he said.
