Afrobeats star Ruger is opening up about his financial journey and how he spent his first earnings
In a recent interview with VJ Adams, Ruger revealed that the first payment he ever got from music was ₦500K, and he gave it all to his church.
“I didn’t use it,” Ruger said. “I gave everything to the church. And the next payment was like a million — I was so happy, buying parfaits and stuff. Then more millions came within a year.”
The singer also spoke on how money has shaped his mindset and approach to life.
“Money changes everybody, don’t mind what others say,” he added. “A lot of things change when you start making money. The way you address things and approach life becomes different.”
According to him, the goal is to have the kind of money that allows you to move in silence — just like Jay Z.
“Some people are so rich they don’t stress at all. That’s the point I want to get to. You see Jay Z? No matter how many times he’s called out, he never speaks. That’s the kind of money I want.”
