Mom’s Boyfriend Admits to Killing 3-Year-Old Mariah Woods: A North Carolina man was given a life sentence without the chance of parole on Monday for the 2017 murder of the 3-year-old daughter of his live-in partner.
Adolphus Kimrey II admitted guilt to first-degree murder and felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury for Mariah Woods’ death, according to WRAL. About 30 miles from her Onslow County home, where she had gone missing a week earlier, Woods was discovered dead in a creek in Pender County.
Woods was found dead from chloroform poisoning, according to an autopsy. Woods’ mother claimed that after putting her daughter to bed, she did not return the following day. According to WECT, Kimrey is thought to have put the toddler to sleep using chloroform.
Woods was seen packing up a van and leaving his house the evening before Kimrey reported him missing. Woods’ body was contained in three plastic bags with knots and a couch cushion cover before being thrown into a nearby creek. Inside the zipped cushion cover, there was also a sizable object that appeared to be cement from a curb.
Woods had bruises and scrapes on her face but showed no signs of sexual abuse, according to WRAL.
Authorities disclosed on Monday that Kimrey had spoken to two other prisoners about putting Woods to sleep with chloroform so he could take meth. According to WCTI, Woods’ mother was not aware that the toddler had been given chloroform.
Two months after the murder of Woods, Kimrey was detained. He agreed to a plea bargain that absolved him of the death penalty.
The Daily News reports that Kimrey apologized profusely for the suffering and sadness she had inflicted in court on Monday. I sincerely apologize to the family and everyone else concerned.
