A Nigerian lady, Busayo, received mixed reactions after she posted a photo of her housekeep who she accused of stealing 9 of her wigs.
In a post on X, Busayo initially said the housekeeper stole 6 wigs and later corrected it to 9.
According to her, eight of the stolen wigs which she sold for N150,000 were retrieved except one.
The post elicited varying reactions on X, with some people describing it as “public shaming and dehumanizing”
However, most X users came to Busayo’s defence.
“Nigerians are bad people because how can anyone be angry you’re posting the picture of a thief? And please spare me that whole talk about poverty, she’s a thief and this sympathy we have for petty thieves is why we have bloodsuckers stealing the country blind,” one Adadioramma wrote.
“Most of the people especially the men in the comments saying she shouldn’t have posted her are only saying so because she’s an older woman who appears conservative. Let it be a younger fashionable girl, they’ll suddenly support posting and shaming her,” Hamima wrote.
Oluwatobi: “As usual, they’ve shifted away from the main issue and focused on why the woman’s picture was posted. How about you ask why somebody’s mother stole in the first place? And not just one wig, six wigs for that matter!.”
