Mississippi State revealed in a statement on December 13, 2022, that Leach had passed on the previous evening “after complications due to a cardiac issue.”

Dailymail claims that the University withheld all additional details regarding the 61-year-old Leach’s health. Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated, among other trustworthy sources, reported the head coach was in a “critical” condition.

According to sources for The Clarion-Ledger, Mike had also experienced seizures, which could have contributed to brain damage.

The Jackson, Mississippi, Clarion-Ledger said that the coach suffered a fatal heart attack but was unable to receive treatment for 10 to 15 minutes.

Coach Leach fell unwell, and Mississippi State’s head coach disclosed what little was known about him.

Mike Leach, the head coach of Mississippi State’s football team, was hospitalized, according to NCB reports, just weeks before the squad’s bowl game.

The head coach started his coaching career in 1987 as an assistant coach at Cal Poly and the College of the Desert.

Under head coach Bob Stoops, Mike joined the Oklahoma staff and took over as offensive coordinator for the Sooners’ attack, which had placed 11th in the Big 12 Conference for the 1999 campaign.

Michael Baumgartner, a Washington state lawmaker, and the team’s head coach, co-taught a five-week course at Washington State University titled “Insurgent Warfare and Football Strategies” in the spring of 2019.
