A Nigerian woman, Ijeoma Okoli, has mourned a childhood friend who allegedly d!ed as a result of domestic violence.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Ijeoma revealed that Omerebere Faith Okafor, got married at 17 and d!ed at 26.
While Faith’s story ended in tragedy, Ijeoma hopes that it will give other women in abusive marriage, the courage and strength to speak up, seek help or walk away.
“Lost a childhood friend to domestic violence in marriage. Since the day I heard of your d3ath it’s so hard to believe that you’re gone,” she wrote.
“Childhood was fun with you in it. No woman should d!e trying to save a relationship or marriage that is not worth fighting. To every young lady, your life matters more than reputation, religion or what people will say. Speak up before it’s too late.
“Your voice still echoes loud and clear. The way you call me IJ BABY still makes me feel your presence never knew that one day I will be writing thisssss but like they say LIFE HAPPENS.
“You were more than a victim, you were a friend, sister and a beautiful soul. Your story will not be forgotten. Through your memory may other young women find the courage to speak, seek help and choose life.
“MARRIED AT 17. D!ED AT 26. YOU ARE GONE BUT YOUR MEMORIES WILL FOREVER LIVE ON.
“REST WELL MRS OMEREBERE FAITH OKAFOR.
