Tuesday, a jury found a Wisconsin father Matthew Beyer Guilty For Murdering His Kids in February 2020 after deliberating for less than an hour.
The day before the parents were scheduled to appear in family court, Matthew Beyer, 38, denied murdering William Beyer, 5, and Danielle Beyer, 3, at their mother’s house in Kaukauna. As previously reported by CrimeOnline.
According to WBAY, prosecutors claimed in court that Matthew Beyer killed the kids because he refused to keep up child support payments and questioned if he was the kids’ biological father.
Following the reading of the jury’s judgment, the judge gave Beyer two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of release.
According to investigators, Beyer modified his account numerous times throughout the course of the investigation, at one point blaming his brother for the deaths and at another speculating that sleepwalking might have been a factor in the crimes.
Beyer first told detectives he hadn’t been to Kaukauna in months at the time of the murders but then admitted he had but didn’t go to the children’s home. Beyer lived in Manitowoc, 40 miles from the children and their mother. Later still, he claimed to have been at the house but not to have murdered the kids.
In order to reconstruct Beyer’s route from his driveway to the residence, investigators pieced together security and traffic camera images.
“How or why you would do this crime is beyond me. With that, I have trouble. In addition, Judge Mark McGinnis remarked, “I think your continued refusal to be honest, to be candid, to be sensitive, and to demonstrate regret is really, very disturbing.” Judge McGinnis made this statement before pronouncing the penalty, via WLUK.
