As Nigerians continue to examine the Tinubu administration days after celebrating its second year anniversary, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that many Nigerians exhibit lack of memory as they blame all the problems of Nigeria on President Bola Tinubu.
During an interview with Arise TV on Friday night, May 30, Onanuga said;
‘’Many of us in this country, many Nigerians, we sometimes exhibit the problem of lack of memory, We have very short memory. We forget where we started from and just start blaming President Tinubu for all the problems that Nigeria is going through.
I remember in May 2023 when Tinubu took over government, there was fuel shortage in this country, people forgot that. All through the election that year, there was fuel shortage. So when the President announced the day he was sworn in that he was removing fuel subsidy, the immediate reaction by NNPC which has been the major supplier of fuel, was to increase the pump price because as at that time, NNPC was no more willing to import fuel.
NNPC was saying the Federal government owed it over N4 trillion and it was also owing its suppliers abroad. What the Federal government did was to breathe some life into NNPC, to resume importing fuel so that fuel can be available. People forget that easily.
There was no way Nigeria could have sustained the regime of fuel subsidy. No way because the resources are just not there. ‘’
He mentioned that people should learn to give President Tinubu credit for some of the decisions he has taken that are to the benefit of all Nigerians.
