A man allegedly stabbed his twin sister over 40 times and attacked his mother following a breakup.
The k!lling took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, in India.
The 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his twin sister more than 40 times and attacked his mother inside their home after spiralling into depression following a breakup.
Police say the accused, who had fallen in love with a woman he met on Instagram, believed his mother and sister were responsible for the relationship falling apart. The anger eventually erupted into a brutal attack that has left the family shattered.
Neelima, who lives in the Buddhi Vihar Colony, works at a health insurance company. Her twin children, Hardik and Himshikha, both 25, lived together in Gurugram where they were working.
The siblings had come to Moradabad to celebrate Holi with their mother and were preparing to return to Gurugram on Friday, March 6, 2026.
According to police, after the Holi holidays Neelima had left for her office, while Hardik and Himshikha were alone at home.
At some point during the day, Hardik allegedly attacked his sister with a knife inside the house. He repeatedly stabbed her, leaving her critically injured on the floor.
Instead of raising an alarm, the accused then went to his mother’s office and asked her to come home with him on some pretext.
When Neelima entered the house, she found her daughter lying in a pool of blood. Her screams echoed through the house and the neighbourhood.
At that moment, Hardik allegedly attacked his mother as well, stabbing her several times before fleeing in a car.
Hearing the mother’s cries, neighbours rushed inside and were stunned by the scene.
An ambulance was immediately called and both victims were taken to the district hospital.
Doctors declared Himshikha d£ad on arrival, while Neelima, who had suffered serious injuries, was admitted for treatment and remains hospitalised.
During the investigation, police discovered that Hardik had been in a relationship with a young woman from Pune. The two had connected on Instagram and had been talking mostly online.
Moradabad SP City Ranvijay Singh said the relationship ended around seven months ago, after which the accused appeared emotionally disturbed.
According to Neelima, who spoke to police from the hospital, Hardik’s behaviour had changed after the breakup.
“He had become very short tempered. He believed that his mother and sister were responsible for the relationship ending, and he had started getting angry over small issues,” police said, quoting her statement.
During questioning, the accused told investigators how the attack unfolded.
“Conversation with a girl started on Instagram and I fell in love with her. About seven months ago we broke up and I went into depression. My sister and mother tried to console me, but this time I suddenly lost my temper,” he told police.
“I picked up a big knife from the kitchen, went to the room and attacked my sister multiple times while she was on the double bed. I also attacked my mother with the intention to k!ll her,” he said.
The post-mortem report has revealed the extreme violence of the attack.
According to the report, Himshikha had more than 40 stab wounds on her body, indicating a frenzied assault that led to her de@th on the spot.
Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation into the case is underway.
