Malaysia landslide Kills 21 Campers: A tourist campground in Malaysia’s Selangor state was struck by a landslide, killing at least 21 people, including children. At the time of the landslide, which occurred at a farm stay in the Batang Kali township at 03:30 on Friday (19:00 GMT Thursday), families were sleeping in their tents.
On Friday, hundreds of rescuers combed through the muck in search of survivors. At least 51 people and 30 children have made reservations for overnight stays, according to the farm’s managers.
According to local media, 14 individuals are still missing, and roughly 700 officials are helping with the search and rescue, according to Malaysian authorities. At least four children were among those killed, according to the Malaysian fire department.
According to a story in the New Straits Times, there were more than 20 primary school teachers and members of their families camping there.
The Land Was Hit By a 30m High Slope
According to Malaysia’s fire and rescue department, the campsite was hit by a 30m-high slope in “a tragic disaster.” Government officials reported that 450,000 square meters of soil were affected by the landslide.
According to Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, the campground had been operating against the law.
The country’s “high-risk” camping areas, which include those near rivers, waterfalls, and hillsides, have been ordered closed for a period of seven days, according to Mr. Nga.
When he visited the region earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi added that all campsites in hazardous areas needed to be abandoned because the weather was predicted to get worse over the next few days. We must take note of what occurred today, he urged.
Uncertainty surrounds the cause of the landslide, which occurred in Batang Kali, a steep, forested area near to the Genting Highland region.
Locals noticed a little light rain, but no significant downpours or tremors before it. However, Malaysia is currently experiencing the monsoon season.
The landslide started on a hill that was over 30 meters (100 feet) higher than the campsite and covered an acre of ground.

Rescuers have been shoveling mud to get to the victims feared trapped in the ground
She told the Malaysian daily Berita Harian, “We felt the tents become unstable and soil was falling around us.
I was able to crawl out and save myself, along with my mother. She claimed to have been camping with a sizable group of more than 40 people.
Leong Jim Meng, a different survivor, claimed to have heard an explosion prior to the ground shifting. That had awakened him and his family, who managed to escape their tents after being briefly trapped by rubble.
He claimed that it was “too dark to see what was going clearly.” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was supposed to visit the spot later on Friday after several other government ministers had already done so. He expressed his sorrow for the loss of life and prayed for more survivors.
