George Wendt, the beloved American actor best known for his role as Norm Peterson in the classic NBC sitcom Cheers, has passed away. He died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 76.

 

According Dailypost, his publicist, Melissa Nathan, confirmed the sad news in an official statement, saying:

 

“Beloved actor and comedian, George Wendt, known for starring in the NBC hit comedy Cheers, has passed away. He will be missed forever.”

 

The statement also noted that Wendt’s family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

 

George Wendt’s portrayal of the lovable, beer-loving Norm made him a household name across the world. His character became an iconic fixture of American TV in the 1980s and earned him six Emmy nominations.

 

Beyond Cheers, Wendt appeared in several movies and TV shows, bringing laughter and warmth with his signature charm and wit.
