A graduate of the Benue State University, Makurdi, Wilfred Amondo, reportedly slumped and d!ed while on duty in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
Amondo, who worked as a security guard reportedly passed away after returning to work shortly after watching the Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain match on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
He had taken to Facebook during the match, writing: “Chelsea de beat PSG, na Man Utd fans come de cry. I no just understand.”
“Bet Chelsea FC to win now, no come say I no tell u.” he added.
However, one Terlumum Dzungwe, in a post addressed to the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, stated that the CCTV footage doesn’t support the company’s claim that Wisdom collapsed and d!ed on duty.
According to him, when his body arrived home on Tuesday, July 15, injuries and physical signs suggest possible violent d3ath.
One Ishaku Adamu, who claims to work in the same company with Wilfred, said he slept and didn’t wake up after calling a colleague to cover up for him so he could rest.
“After match finished he started chatting on Facebook. Around 12am Wilfred called his colleague to come and cover his area because he wanted to go and rest. So after he go to sleep, he lay down he never wake up again,” Adamu wrote.
LIB gathered that the deceased, an orphan, worked as a wheelbarrow pusher and Keke rider to sponsor himself in school.
“With the help of a friend, he traveled to Lagos about two months ago to work as a security personnel. Sadly, on the 14th of July, 2025, we received the devastating news of his untimely death. According to the company, he slumped and died while on duty.
“However, upon reviewing the CCTV footage of the incident, the situation became more complicated, as the footage does not clearly support the company’s claim.
“Moreover, when his body arrived home yesterday, we observed injuries and physical signs that suggest a different and possibly violent cause of death.
“We are deeply dissatisfied with the explanation given for his demise. Sadly, Wilfred was an orphan and had no one to pursue this matter on his behalf. Even the transportation of his corpse home was made possible through the efforts of a friend and contributions from the company.
“We demand justice for this innocent young man.
“You have always been a voice for the voiceless, and I earnestly plead that you take swift action by initiating an investigation into this matter. I am available to provide you with more details, sir.”
