Lagos govt cracks down on street traders, arrests 15 during clean-up operations

The Lagos State Government has stepped up enforcement against illegal street trading, carrying out multiple clean-up operations across key parts of the state.

IAccording to Punch, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operations targeted areas where traders had taken over roads and caused traffic obstruction.

According to him, the Environmental Task Force moved in on Ogudu Road by Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction.

He said traders had encroached on the roads, compromising traffic flow and public safety.

During the operations, goods and wares were seized, while 15 offenders were arrested.

Wahab added that all suspects will be arraigned in court, and the seized items will be forfeited to the state in line with existing laws.

“Street trading remains illegal in Lagos, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly and fairly to keep our roads safe, orderly, and free for all road users,” he said.

The Lagos State Government has again urged residents and traders to comply with regulations to avoid sanctions.
