Lagos begins demolition of properties in Megamond estate, Oral estate (videos)

The Lagos state government has begun the demolition of some structures built in Megamound estate, Oral estate and Lekki County built in the right of way of the Ikota River alignment.

 

The state Commission of Environment and Wtaer Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this via his X handle. He mentioned that the demolition began on Friday, May 9.

 

‘’Following the expiration of served notices, operatives from Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources on Friday commenced the removal of contravening structures within Megamond Estate and Oral Estate along Ikota River alignment, Eti-osa, to prevent perennial flooding in the area.’’ he wrote on X

 

Some structures within Oral Estate, Westend, Megamounds, and Lekki County have been earmarked for demolition by the state government for being in the right of way of the river. The state government mentioned that the demolition being done are part of measures to help address flooding in the state as well as protect lives and properties.
