The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of scheduled maintenance works on Marine Bridge, set to be undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works. The advisory was made public through a press statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday morning.
According to the announcement, the partial closure of the bridge is essential to facilitate repairs on the bridge’s underlying bearings, overseen by the Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos. The maintenance project is slated to begin on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and will conclude on Sunday, June 8, 2025. To reduce traffic disruptions, the work will be executed in two phases.
The first phase, from May 18 to June 1, will target the foot of the Marine Bridge along Lawani Oguntayo Road inbound Apapa and Costain. During this time, motorists traveling from Ijora Oloopa to Apapa are advised to take the Ijora Causeway access ramp near Omni Retail Company to continue their journey.
The second phase, running from June 2 to June 8, will cover Ijora Badia and the Lilypond Access Ramp inbound Apapa. For the duration of this phase, motorists heading to Apapa from Costain will be directed into a contraflow on the lane normally used for travel inbound to Costain. Those traveling from Ijora Olopa to Apapa will also be rerouted via the Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail Company into Lilypond Access Road.
The commissioner confirmed that the Marine Bridge will fully reopen to traffic on Monday, June 9, 2025. He assured the public that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will monitor and guide vehicular movement along the corridor to minimize inconveniences.
Motorists are urged to remain patient and comply with the traffic management plan during the maintenance period to ensure safe and orderly travel.
